Vin Rías Baixas
Rías Baixas
Rías Baixas is a region located on the southwest coast of Galicia, Spain. The region includes four estuaries: Ría de Muros e Noia, Ría de Arousa, Ría de Pontevedra and Ría de Vigo. Due to the proximity to the ocean, the climate of the area is mild and humid. Thus the area is known for its green landscape with abundant pine and eucalyptus forests. Neither pine nor eucalyptus are indigenous trees, but they were brought here and have adapted perfectly.
Winemaking is an important industry for Rías Baixas and the surrounding lands. There are approximately 20,000 different vineyards in the area. A particular type of white wine, Albariño, is originated in the Rías Baixas and now accounts for 90% of the wine produced there. This wine is particularly successful in this area because the structures that are the main ingredient are able to withstand and even thrive in the humid, coastal climate.
