Medium dry wines

Sweetness is mainly the flavor of sugar present in the wine, although alcohol and glycerol can add a perception of sweetness too.

Medium-dry to medium sweet covers wines with a distinct presence of sugar, but which are generally not sweet enough to partner most desserts (generally about 1- to 45 g/l), much of the sweetness may be masked by acidity, as happens with many German rieslings. The medium category includes most classic German Riesling Kabinett and Spatlese wines and many Alsace wines.
