Visual

Deep ruby.

Palate

The palate is finesse par excellence, with silky tannins and bright, clean-edged fruit, crowned with a finish boasting impressively racy tannins.

Nose

Remarkable complexity on the nose, releasing heady fragrances of dark wild berry, pungent spice, and smooth pipe tobacco.

Winemaking

Each grape variety and single vineyard block was vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 26-30°C for one week, followed by 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. The malolactic fermentation took place primarily in oak barriques, 70% new and 30% once-used. The wine then remained in barriques, in Tenuta dell’Ornellaia’s temperature-controlled cellars for about 18 months. After the first 12 months of maturation, the wine was assembled and then returned to the barriques for an additional 6 months. After bottling, the wine aged a further 12 months prior to release.

  • Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC Superiore, vinul reprezentativ al producatorului, are in compozitie Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc si Petit Verdot. Realizat prima oara in 1985, provine din cele 97ha care se bucura de climatul perfect al colinelor Bolgheri, cu expunere spre mare. 

    Vitele de vie sunt ingrijite manual pe toata durata anului. Cand sunt copti (la maturitate deplina), strugurii de pe fiecare parcela sunt culesi manual, in cutii de maxim 15 kg. Ciorchinii trec apoi pe o masa dubla de triere unde orice boaba imperfecta este eliminata manual, asigurandu-se astfel ca doar strugurii perfect copti ajung sa fie vinificati si maturati. Vinul Ornellaia rezultat este lansat pe piata dupa 3 ani.

  • Ornellaia 1998 a fost declarat "Wine of the Year" de catre revista americana Wine Spectator.
