Vin Tenuta di Trinoro
Tenuta di Trinoro
Tenuta di Trinoro was founded in 1992 by Andrea Franchetti, the descendent of a rich family from Venice (his great-grandfather Giorgio Franchetti was the owner of the famous palace in Venice, Ca d'Oro). Before 1992, Andrea Franchetti went to Bordeaux to learn the art of winemaking from his dear friends, Jean Luc Thunevin of Chateau Valandraud and Peter Sisseck of Dominio de Pingus. Andrea Franchetti had his inspiration in Bordeaux and indeed his high-density, low-training vines are more reminiscent of Saint Emilion and Pomerol than the rest of Tuscany. The winery is located outside the village of Sarteano in Southeastern Tuscany. The area has a very special microclimate and unique soil that consists of clay, gravel and limestone, not so different from what Franchetti knows from BordeauxTenuta di Trinoro is pretty high up at between 500 and 700 meters at sea level, protected from the sea by the Monte Amiata on the very southeast of Tuscany. The very particular nature of his vineyard means that Andrea and then his descendants hand-picked the grapes parcel by parcel, waiting for optimum ripeness, pushing harvest till November. At Tenuta di Trinoro, Franchetti planted the Bordeaux grapes, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot and the result is a series of spectacular wines that have thrilled Robert Parker and the rest of the wine world. Upon their debut, Andrea’s wines instantly got the role of “cult wines, “ for the wines are from the start produced in small quantities, but of extremely high quality and the successful exhibit.
