Capichera

In the 1920s, Alberto Ragnedda inherited a farm of just over ten hectares in the far north of Sardinia. In those days, the farm produced just enough wine for the Ragnedda family who lived in the town of Arzachena and enjoyed springtime at the farm at Capichera. In the 1970s, Alberto’s son expanded the estate to around 60 hectares and planted new vineyards of Vermentino (the typical local variety) and built a modern winery for the production of high quality wines. In 1980, the first wine was sold under the Capichera label. This Vermentino was radically different to those already available on the market. It was richer, more fragrant, smoother and longer-lived. In the following years, Alberto’s grandsons, Fabrizio and Mario, began to work in the winery. Although very young, they invested their energy into making Capichera a leader in top quality wine production. Production is presently at around 300,000 bottles per year. Capichera is the symbol of Italian Vermentino in the world and is credited with the oenological re-evaluation and renaissance in Sardinia. Thanks to the history and uniqueness of its wine, today Capichera is considered the benchmark for Vermentino all over the world.
