Vin Château Margaux
Château Margaux
The history and reputation of Château Margaux owe as much to the genius of the place as to the contribution of the people who have served it for five centuries. 200 years ago, the Marquis de la Colonilla had already marked the Domain by building, in honor of wine, this great architectural heritage in a style inspired by ancient Greece. The architect Louis Combes designed the castle's peristyle in homage to the Parthenon. In 1977, André Mentzelopoulos bought the property. The Ionic columns that adorn the peristyle of the castle reminded him of his native Greece and made him feel proud and happy, succeeding within only three years, through the measures adopted, to restore to Château Margaux the luster it had lost during the long crisis of Bordeaux wine. Adding a modern building to this historic monument was certainly a bold move, but Norman Foster was able to meet the technical and aesthetic challenges of Château Margaux. The new buildings designed by Norman Foster live up to the architectural demands of the Domain's past while allowing it in the future to continue its pursuit of excellence through the renewal of technology. Château Margaux thus has today, and for a long time to come, an architectural heritage and instruments to match the reputation and quality of its wine. At the beginning of the 21st century, Bordeaux wines experienced unprecedented success, with demand for them continuing to grow. This prosperity, as well as the development of many other wine regions of the world, placed Château Margaux in an even more competitive climate and also made it possible to highlight its unique position: that of a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 that enjoyed a terroir for over centuries. The year 2023 marks a new era with the change of generation within the Mentzelopoulos family. Corinne passes the baton to her children and appoints her son Alexis as the new manager of Château Margaux in her place. Her daughter, Alexandra, becomes the holding company's supervisory board president.
