Vin Pieve Santa Restituta
Pieve Santa Restituta
Located in the southwest subzone of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, the Gaja family acquired the Pieve di Santa Restituta estate in 1994. The historic estate covers 16 hectares and produces a classic, blended Brunello di Montalcino and two vineyard-designated wines, Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille and Brunello di Montalcino Rennina. In 2005, the family also installed its state-of-the-art winemaking facility. Until then, the winery had produced only its vineyard-designated wines, Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille and Brunello di Montalcino Rennina. The cellar lies below the ground and covers 4,000 square meters. It incorporated the existing cellar and was conceived to impact the environment as little as possible. The unique position and soil structure of the Sugarille vineyard - calcareous clay with a gently sloping southern exposure - give this wine an expressive, powerful character. This is an exceptional terroir, producing outstanding, long-aging single-vineyard Brunello. With the 2005 vintage, the Gaja family decided to have its first “blended” Brunello di Montalcino, made from fruit grown in its top growing sites Sugarille and Rennina (Santo Pietro, Castagno, and Pian dei Cerri) and fruit sourced from the 10-hectare parcel located in Torrenieri, in the northeastern subzone of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation.
