Man O'War Valhalla Chardonnay - 2020 - Waiheke Island
Bright pale yellow.
The palate is rich and textural with a fresh succulent finish that belies its concentration.
A range of citrus notes from lime characters to mandarin.
The grapes are hand-harvested and then bunch sorted in the winery before being macerated before pressing. The pressed juice was then left un-fined in the tank until the onset of spontaneous fermentation. The juice was then fed and transferred to the barrel for fermentation which is hot hard and fast. To prevent malolactic fermentation, the wines are left on gross lees in puncheons (25% new) and sulfured in the spring. After 11 months in 500 liters French puncheons, the wine was racked and blended.
