Man O'War

Man O’ War is a boutique vineyard, located on the eastern end of beautiful Waiheke Island. The perfect natural conditions and the high winemaking skills lead to the success of Man O'War wines. During his first voyage around the New Zealand Islands, Captain James Cook anchored here and when he saw the magnificent Kauri trees on the shore, Cook noted in his journals that they could make ideal masts for warships Man O' War of the Royal Navy. Thus, the name Man O' War was given to this unique land.  Over two hundred years after Cook first saw the Man O' War, the Spencer family, convinced of the land's potential, believed that world-class wine could be produced here, and putting all caution aside, in 1993 they planted the first vines. Today, Man O' War is still a family business and consists of 60ha of vines planted in 76 individual hillside blocks, each with a distinct soil profile and microclimate.
