Though rich and powerful, it reveals finesse, perfect balance, and an elegant texture. The finish is long and persistent, marked by silky, well-defined tannins that deliver depth, flavor, and refinement.
Nose
Aromas of ripe blueberries, blackberries, and other dark fruits, elegantly complemented by notes of toasted almonds and cocoa. As it opens in the glass, Mediterranean hints of aromatic herbs emerge.
Winemaking
Each grape variety and vineyard parcel was vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel and concrete tanks at controlled temperatures between 26 and 30°C, followed by approximately 15 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation occurred mainly in oak barriques, 70% of them new. The wine was matured for around 18 months in the Ornellaia cellars, then blended and further aged. After bottling, it underwent an additional 12 months of bottle ageing before release.
Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC Superiore, the representative wine of the producer, is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. First released in 1985, it comes from the 97ha that enjoys the perfect climate of the Bolgheri hills, with exposure to the sea.
The vines are cared for by hand all year round. When ripe (at full maturity), the grapes on each plot are hand-picked into 15 kg crates. The bunches are then passed on a double sorting table where any imperfect grain is removed by hand, thus ensuring that only perfectly ripe grapes are vinified and matured. The resulting Ornellaia wine is released on the market after 3 years.
